What are the advantages of 5 axis machining?

I don’t think it’s wise to talk about accuracy out of actual needs. If you just want to divide a large aluminum block into several small pieces to make spare blanks, you want to control the dimensional accuracy within 0.001mm, which will only result in a waste of costs.

It is also wrong to “talk about the accuracy from the actual machine tool”, so it is completely wrong to say that “the accuracy of the five-axis CNC machine tool is higher than that of the three-axis CNC machine tool”. High-end three-axis machine tools can manufacture more precise products than ordinary five-axis machine tools.

The three-axis machine tool contains three linear axes, and its structure is relatively simple. When the three-axis machining center is processing, the direction of the tool axis will not change, the movement mode is also limited, and the programming is relatively simple. On the surface, a five-axis machine has two more rotary axes than a three-axis machine. That is, a five-axis machine tool includes, in addition to the three linear axes, two of the rotary axes respectively around the three linear axes.

What are the advantages of 5 axis machining?

The difference between the three-axis and the five-axis is mainly reflected in the processing ability. A 5-axis machine can do the work of a 3-axis machine, but a 3-axis can’t do the work of 5-axis machine. This shows that the existence of two rotating axes gives the five-axis machine tool stronger processing capabilities.

The advantages of the 5-axis cnc machining are mainly reflected in the following points:

1. Reduce clamping times: Due to the existence of the two rotating axes of the five-axis machine tool, the tool can approach the workpiece from any direction, and one clamping can realize the machining of all surfaces except the mounting surface. “Reducing the number of clampings” can kill two birds with one stone for the pursuit of efficient and high-precision machining. On the one hand, reducing the number of clamping times can save time, reduce the labor intensity of workers, and improve processing efficiency;

2.Maintain the best cutting state of the tool and improve the cutting conditions: Due to the use of a five-axis machine tool, the tool can approach the workpiece from any direction, so that the tool can cut the workpiece at the most suitable angle. It can also improve processing efficiency and processing quality.

3.Effectively avoid interference: Also because of the existence of two rotating axes of the five-axis machine tool, the tool can approach the workpiece from any direction, making the machining path flexible and changeable. It can effectively avoid interference problems during processing.

4. Shortened the development cycle: This is also the natural effect achieved after the quality and efficiency are improved.

So in general, the existence of two rotating axes allows the tool to approach the workpiece from any direction during 5-axis machine tool processing, which brings a series of advantages. As a result, it is possible to double improve the processing efficiency and quality. 5-axis machining has many benefits when used, but with it comes a higher level of implementation difficulty on a technical level.
