Simultaneous 5-Axis CNC Milling Centers
Achieving absolute ±0.005mm precision on complex organic geometries. Eliminating multiple setups to deliver flight-critical aerospace and medical components faster.
True capability is defined by hardware. At 3Q Machining, our fleet of continuous 5-axis machining centers represents the highest level of kinematic precision available today. By articulating the cutting tool and the workpiece across X, Y, Z, A, and B axes simultaneously, we execute deep undercuts, turbine impellers, and contoured superalloys in a "Done-in-One" operation—drastically reducing tolerance stack-up errors.

The 5-Axis Precision Ecosystem
World-class machine tools mean nothing without the right metrology and programming ecosystems. We support our 5-axis fleet with cutting-edge QA hardware to eliminate human error and secure true positional accuracy.
In-Machine Probing
Renishaw OMP40/60 spindle probes for automated part alignment, dynamically updating work offsets before the cutting tool even touches the metal.
Laser Tool Setters
Non-contact laser measurement checks tool wear and breakage in real-time, instantly adjusting compensation parameters for the next cycle.
HyperMILL CAM
Collision-free continuous 5-axis toolpaths generated by industry-leading CAM software, ensuring optimal cutting logic for complex impellers.
Zero-Point Clamping
Schunk/Lang zero-point pneumatic vises reduce setup times to seconds, ensuring repeatability of ±0.005mm across mass production batches.
Why Upgrade to 5-Axis?
Traditional 3-Axis milling is excellent for flat, prismatic parts. However, when complex side-holes or organic curves are required, a 3-axis machine requires an operator to manually un-clamp, rotate, and re-fixture the part.
1. Zero Tolerance Stack-up ("Done-in-One")
Every manual re-fixturing introduces a slight alignment error (stack-up). 5-Axis machines access 5 sides of a part without moving the workpiece, guaranteeing true geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) between features.
2. Shorter Tools, Less Deflection
Because the spindle head can tilt towards the workpiece, we can use much shorter, stiffer cutting tools. This eliminates tool vibration (chatter), allowing higher cutting speeds and superior mirror surface finishes.
Engineering Advantage: 5-Axis continuous rotation allows the cutting tool to remain perfectly perpendicular to complex contoured surfaces.

What is the difference between 3+2 and Simultaneous 5-axis machining?
+
3+2 machining (positional) locks the tilt-rotary axes at a fixed angle, allowing the tool to reach hidden faces. However, Simultaneous 5-axis machining continuously interpolates all five axes during the cut. At 3Q Machining, we utilize simultaneous hardware to achieve zero-line-break surface finishes on impellers, turbine blades, and complex medical implants that are impossible to manufacture with positional indexing.
How does through-spindle coolant (CTS) benefit your 5-axis production?
+
Deep pocketing and aggressive roughing in Titanium Grade 5 or Inconel generate extreme heat and chip buildup. Our 5-axis centers are equipped with 1000 PSI high-pressure through-spindle coolant. This ensures chips are instantly evacuated from deep cavities, preventing tool breakage and maintaining the strict thermal stability required to hold ±0.005mm accuracy across long cycle times.
What is the maximum part size you can machine on your 5-axis centers?
+
Our largest 5-axis trunnion machines have a maximum working envelope of 850mm x 700mm x 500mm, with a rotary table payload capacity of up to 600 kg. This allows us to handle everything from micro-medical implants to large aerospace structural bulkheads.
What CAM software do you use for 5-axis simultaneous programming?
+
Simultaneous 5-axis machining requires flawless anti-collision path generation. We utilize advanced CAM software suites including HyperMILL and Mastercam. These allow our engineers to run full digital-twin simulations before a single chip is cut, ensuring perfect tool engagement angles on complex Superalloys.
